There’s a new mural coming to Aptos, under the train trestle at the intersection of Spreckels Drive and Soquel Drive. The mural is designed by Santa Cruz mural artist Arturo Thomae, and will be painted under his direction with a host of local volunteers.
The Santa Cruz County Graffiti Removal Project is helping to coordinate volunteers, so if you are interested, please contact Maggie at (831) 427-0462 or via email at email@example.com. The work was to have begun this week, but has been rained out. It is now envisaged that the work will begin this weekend, or if not, this coming Monday.
Depending on the number of volunteers and the weather, the project could take anywhere from one to three weeks. Be advised that there will be a lane closure at the mural site while work is on-going. The mural which is presently there is chipping away and vandals have begun to graffiti it, and it is hoped that a new mural in its place will deter further graffiti.
