James Durbin Speaks in Aptos on March 29

March 26, 2014 by Seb Frey

The Monterey Herald is reporting that Santa Cruz native James Durbin will be speaking – and possibly performing a song or two – at the Cabrillo College Visual and Performing Arts Complex this coming Saturday, March 29th at 7:30 PM. James Durbin garnered wide acclaim when he appeared on the 10th season of American Idol, coming in 4th Place. James is afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome and Aspberger’s Syndrome, and appeared in a documentary Different is the New Normal, about a teen living with Tourette’s.

Adult tickets are $15; kids and seniors are $12, and Cabrillo Students are $10 and can be ordered here.

Santa Cruz Blues Festival 2014 Lineup Announced

March 25, 2014 by Seb Frey

The lineup for the 22nd annual Santa Cruz Blues Festival has been announced – and as usual, it brings an amazing amount of talent to our little town! This year, the festival is being headlined by Gregg Allman (of Allman Brothers fame) and Chris Isaak. The Sunday show also features musical virtuoso Jackie Greene, a rising star on the Jam Band circuit and an absolutely phenomenal talent at guitar, harmonica, and keyboard. Jackie is a son of the Monterey Bay area, having been born and raised in Salinas.

The festival dates are May 24th and 25th, and tickets are available on-line through the web site, but can also be purchased at Moe’s Alley and Streelight Records.

The Santa Cruz Blues Festival is one of those yearly events that make Aptos truly special. Plan to come early and stay late – they serve a wide range of food and beer. Bring the family and a set of lawn chairs and prepared to be amazed.

Also, be sure to like them on Facebook.

March 13, 2014 by Seb Frey

The Aptos Little League is hosting a fundraiser on April 27 2014 at the Spring Hills Golf Course. The little league holds a fundraiser every year, and the money raised goes to support the league, for example, by improving the facilities such as maintaining the baseball fields, and purchasing equipment. This year, the league is working to place automatic external defibrillators on the fields. Come and support the league and get in some exercise by playing a full 18 holes of golf. After an invigorating round of golf, enjoy a BBQ dinner and silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by the Aptos Junior High and Rio del Mar Elementary rock bands! Individual tickets are $95 each; a foursome is $350, and juniors are $50. Not much of a golfer? Then come just for dinner – adult dinner tickets are $20, kids tickets are $5. Aptos Real Estate Report – March 2014

March 7, 2014 by Seb Frey

Is Aptos ever more beautiful than in the springtime? Well, yes – it’s more beautiful in autumn usually, but it’s pretty nice in the springtime, especially just after a little RAIN! But we’re not here to talk about the exquisite Aptos weather so much as about the Aptos real estate market. To get things rolling, here is a quick YouTube video with the market highlights and some insight:

March 2014 Aptos Real Estate Market Summary

In February 2014, 20 single-family homes closed escrow in Aptos with a median price of $685,000. This is a decrease of 4.5% compared to February 2013 when the median price was $717,000. On average, the homes which sold did so in 70 days, and the average sales price was $710,875.

As of today, March 7 2014, there are presently 62 single-family homes ‘active’ on the Aptos MLS; over the past six months, an average of 19.3 homes has sold every month, meaning there is a 3.2 month supply of homes available in Aptos. Of these ‘active’ homes, they have an average of 119 days on market. There are presently 38 homes under contract in Aptos, and these homes have an average of 87 days on market.

Looking at the numbers, the Aptos market appears to be in good shape. Interestingly enough, Zillow classifies Aptos as a buyer’s market, as it does not simply count the available inventory, but rather takes into account the sales-to-list-price ratio, prevalence of price cuts, and time on market. Even so, Zillow expects the Aptos market to appreciate 2.4% through January 2015, and classifies the Aptos real estate market as very healthy which is an accurate characterization at this time.
