The government of Santa Cruz County is now on NextDoor! Jason Hoppin, communications manager for the County, has announced that Santa Cruz County will now be utilizing NextDoor.com to share information on County happenings related county neighborhoods. This information will include such as important community meetings, storm-related information, and more.
Hoppin pointed out that everything about your NextDoor Neighborhood website remains private – the county cannot see anything posted to it except for direct replies to their own posts. Also, users are reminded that Nextdoor is not the appropriate way to request emergency, police or other services and that if you require emergency services, or wish to report suspicious activity, call 911.
It should be noted that some local governmental agencies are already on NextDoor, including the Santa Cruz RTC and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff. Having the county itself as a whole participate should prove to be a great way for community concerns to be shared with county personnel, and to hear back from them.
An interesting aspect of the county being on NextDoor is that they can post messages across NextDoor neighborhoods throughout the county. Normally, NextDoor users can only see messages and replies from adjoining neighborhoods. When the County shares a post across neighborhoods however, NextDoor users can see responses from and interact with users all across the county.
