The controversial Aptos Blue housing project celebrated its grand opening this past Wednesday. The 2-acre project provides 40 studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments for low- and very-low income families and individuals, with five units being reserved by the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency for MHSA (Mental Health Services Act) tenants. The project is located directly across from the Rancho del Mar Shopping Center on Aptos Rancho Road.
The development is built around the historic Castro House, which was originally built in the mid-1870s as part of the Aptos Rancho. The newly renovated structure will now serve as the community building for the project’s residents, and will include a meeting room, common kitchen, a classroom for an after school program, a computer lab, and office space.
